Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) is a 380 bed regional hospital with an immediate population of 105,000 residents, and serving as a referral centre for Central and Northern Vancouver Island with a total catchment population of approximately 450,000. NRGH has a total of 10 ORs in the main operating room and 2 ambulatory ORs used for ophthalmology and procedures under local anesthetic. Members of our group also provide coverage at our outpatient consult clinic, two private surgical centres, and an oral surgery clinic. Surgical specialties at NRGH include: General Surgery, Orthopedics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology, Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery, Pediatric Dentistry, and Opthalmology. The surgical program at NRGH completes approximately 13,500 surgeries per year including 8,700 daycare surgeries and 4,600 in-patient surgeries. We have a busy emergency service conducting approximately 2,300 emergency surgeries per year. Our perinatal unit does approximately 1,200 deliveries per year and is supported by a level 2 NICU. Our main OR was constructed in 2005 and is equipped with state of the art wireless HD laparoscopic equipment. We utilize Drager Zeus anesthetic machines and share access to four ultrasound machines to facilitate regional anesthesia and vascular access. We do a large volume of elective and emergency orthopedic surgery and incorporate regional blocks into patient care as appropriate. We run an outpatient consult clinic three days per week. NRGH is in the process of building a new ICU tower which will include a 12 bed high acuity unit. We enjoy good support from critical care and most medical subspecialties.

Three members of our group provide interventional pain management in our interdisciplinary chronic pain clinic which is equipped with a dedicated fluoroscopy suite

Current ACLS, PALS required. ATLS certification desirable. Additional consideration given to candidates with fellowship training in any of Critical Care Medicine, Regional Anesthesia, or Perioperative Medicine.
